The Mountainous Spirit of Mae Jan Tai Coffee
Ban Mae Jan Tai is situated on a complex and fertile mountain range. This area serves as a “secluded sanctuary” hidden within the valleys, boasting exceptionally rich topsoil and high mineral content. The Akha farmers here strictly adhere to the traditional practice of Shade-Grown coffee cultivation. Large trees such as pine, wild ironwood, and various winter fruits provide essential shade and maintain moisture levels. This farming method plays a vital role in preserving the upstream ecosystem and maintaining a sustainable natural balance.
With an elevation reaching 1,200 – 1,500 meters above sea level, Ban Mae Jan Tai experiences a cold climate and is shrouded in mist for most of the year. The cold night temperatures combined with optimal humidity levels effectively slow down the maturation of the coffee cherries. This results in denser beans with a higher concentration of sugars and organic acids than usual, cultivating a bold and unique character that is rarely found elsewhere.
Mae Jan Tai coffee has gained international acclaim for its Clean Cup quality and multi-dimensional flavor profile. The majority of the crops are Mixed Arabica varieties, including Caturra, Catimor, Typica, and Yellow Bourbon. Each variety contributes distinct characteristics that blend harmoniously within this single origin.
The signature Taste Note is defined by a vibrant High Acidity, offering a refreshing sweet-and-sour profile reminiscent of Lemon, Grapefruit, or Green Apple. This is accompanied by an aromatic Floral scent and a succulent sweetness of Honey or Brown Sugar in the finish. Its Body is smooth and refined, making it an easy-drinking yet highly complex coffee.
